shiori
Shiori is a yakitori bar set in a 132 year old Goan structure. Through this project, the intent was to maintain the nostalgia by preserving the integrity of the structure while introducing new elements that helped transform it to a fresh new yakitori bar. The street bar is designed to take maximum advantage of its small footprint but large frontage. The conscious choice of dark flooring, moody wall finishes, and wooden countertop are reminiscent of a Japanese izakaya.
The Shibori cushions, Ukiyo-e themed art and pop art, Akuri inspired lamps, and tropical plants complete the bar. Across Japan, you will observe chic curtain-like fabrics hanging in front of traditional restaurants, small eateries, izakaya bars, tea and seaweed shops. This fabric is called ‘Noren’. For Shiori, we designed and handcrafted our very own 15 ft long ‘Noren’ light installation which hangs modestly above the bar.
